Text Field
The Text Field allows users to provide written responses to questions or prompts in a form. There are two types of text fields available in the Form Builder:
Short Answer Field (Default) A single-line input field designed for brief responses — ideal for capturing information like first names, last names, suburbs, or any question requiring a concise answer.
Long Answer Field (Multiline) A multi-line input field designed for longer responses such as descriptions or comments. The field expands dynamically as the user types, unless a character limit has been set.
Step-by-Step Guide
In the Form Fields panel on the right-hand side of your screen, drag and drop the Text field onto your form — or click Add Item and select Text from the list.
Enter a question or prompt for your respondents.
Optionally, customise the field using the settings below:
Placeholder Text — Add a hint inside the input field to guide respondents on what to enter.
Max Characters — Set a character limit to restrict the length of a respondent's answer.
Multiline — Enable this to switch to a long answer field. If left off, the field defaults to a short answer.
Input Required — Turn this on to make the field mandatory before the form can be submitted.
Show Time Entered — Automatically stamps each response with the date and time it was submitted.
Show User Last Edited — Records the details of the user who last edited the response, useful for accountability and authenticity.
Summary Page Settings — Control how Text field responses appear in the Responses Display List:
Filterable — Allows respondents' text answers to be filtered for quick reference.
Display in List — Shows text responses directly in the list view.
Edit in List — Enables editing of text responses from the display view.
Click Save & Preview to see your text fields in action.
