The Maximum Form Width setting controls how wide your form appears when someone is completing it.
This only affects how the form displays on larger screens (such as desktop computers and laptops). On smaller devices like phones or tablets, forms automatically adjust to fit the screen width.
How to set the maximum form width
Open your form in the Form Builder.
Click the Settings tab.
Locate Maximum Form Width.
Choose one of the available options:
Normal
Wide
Full
When should I use each option?
Option | Best for |
Normal | The default width is used for most forms. This keeps the form centred with a comfortable reading width. |
Wide | Allows the form to expand further across the screen, providing more space for content. |
Full | Allows the form to use the maximum available width on larger screens. |
Important
Changing the maximum form width does not affect how forms appear on mobile devices. Forms will always automatically adjust to fit the device's screen.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q. Will this affect how my form looks on mobile devices?
No. IndyForms forms are fully responsive and will automatically scale to fit the device's screen size.
Q. When should I use Wide or Full width?
Wider layouts work best for forms that contain table fields, long text responses, and complex layouts with multiple columns.
Q. Does changing the width affect my form fields?
No. The setting only controls the maximum width of the form layout. It does not change the behaviour of individual fields.
Q. Can I change the width after publishing my form?
Yes. You can update the Maximum Form Width at any time from the Settings tab in the Form Builder. To apply the change, simply re-publish the form.
π‘ Tips
Use wider layouts for large tables: Forms that include Table fields often benefit from Wide or Full width so all columns are easier to view.
Keep standard forms on Normal width: For most forms with simple fields, Normal width provides the best reading experience.
Consider long text fields: If your form includes long responses or detailed information, a wider layout can improve readability.
Test your form preview: Use the Preview tab in the Form Builder to see how the form looks with different width settings.
