What Is the Multiline Option?
The Multiline option increases the height of a Text field's input box, giving respondents more space to write detailed answers. It is useful for any question where a single line is not enough — such as descriptions, instructions, notes, or open-ended responses.
Examples of when to use it:
"What are your dietary requirements or food allergies?"
"Please describe the incident in detail."
"Add any additional notes or comments."
How to Enable Multiline
In the Form Builder, click the Text field you want to expand.
In the field options panel on the right, scroll down and tick the Multiline checkbox.
Click Save and use Preview to confirm the field displays as expected.
Repeat for any other Text fields that require a longer response.
💡 IndyTip: Before publishing, review each Text field and consider whether respondents are likely to need more than one line to answer. Fields collecting descriptions, comments, or detailed information are good candidates for Multiline.
